How To De-Stress and Become More Relaxed
Today's world can be stressful, and these days it seems that many of the readers at want to know more about relaxation.
I'm constantly being asked questions like "How can I get a better sleep?"; "How can I feel more relaxed?"; and "How can I de-stress?"
I've compiled my top tips for relaxation for you to try. You can begin with trying all of them, or even just trying one to add some 'zen' into your day!
1. Go Herbal!
Caffeine has been shown to increase cortisol levels, which are your body's stress hormones. Increased cortisol promotes worrying, nervousness, anxiousness, stress, and can even lead to illness.
2. Get more Winks
The more sleep you get at night, the more relaxed you'll feel. If you have trouble sleeping, try making bedtime habits, such as reading for half an hour each night before bed, listening to calm and soothing music, drinking warm milk or herbal tea before bed, and going to bed at the same time each night.
3. Get Moving
Exercise not only reduces stress, but improves your sleep patterns, which further decrease stress. A recent study showed that even a small amount of light exercise each day (such as stretching, light cleaning, or walking) was enough to help get a better night's sleep.
4. Keep a Journal
Stress levels often get raised because we don't have an outlet to release our worries, thoughts, and anxieties. Keeping a journal can help us see our worries in a more rational way, causing us to feel less built-up stress.
5. Keep it in Perspective
What is your life all about? Stress can sometimes form over things that seem extremely important - such as a performance review at work, a major test or exam, or major deadline. However important these may seem, they might feel like nothing if somehow the health of one of you or one of your family members was in jeopardy. Keep your blessings in mind when your worries get out of control, and remind yourself how lucky you are for the things you DO have!
